My best advice is GO BIG!

As a photographer, I have the wonderful opportunity of meeting many new people and families on a regular basis. I always enjoy the time I get to spend with people during a photo session, getting to know them and having fun.

Recently I met a family that touched my heart to it’s very core. They inspired me to be a better wife, a better mother; and really cherish the blessings that our present in our lives.

Meet the Reeves family.

The Reeves were blessed with 3 handsome boys and one darling little girl. Their little girl, Saydria, was born with a problem with her lungs. Doctors explained that her lungs will never fully develop and she may not live very long.

The Reeves’ family knew they would not have much time with their sweet little princess. So having family portraits was extremely important. I felt humbled and honored that they would allow me to capture their beautiful family.

Not knowing how much time they would have left with their little sister, I fought back tears as I watched Saydria’s brothers cradle and love their little princess…

The gospel knowledge that families are forever, keeps the Reeves family smiling and happy.

This morning I awoke to a sad email. Receiving the news that at only 6 months old, sweet Saydria passed away peacefully last night during her sleep. A precious daughter, filled with smiles and personality, would now return to live with her Heavenly Father.

Sometimes it’s the smallest things that have the biggest effect on our souls. More than ever these words are ringing true…

Words will never express my gratitude to the Reeves family for teaching me so much about love, life and what really matters. What they gave me will far exceed anything I could do for them. Thank you.

Dear sweet Saydria, may your spirit and message of love live on forever.

What’s in a Name: Pink Daffodil Photography – How it all began

So I have a lot of people ask me how I came up with the name Pink Daffodil Photography for my photography business. While I usually keep my personal life separate from business, but I feel like I need to share the background of this business.

It all started back in 2002, when at the age of 26, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Talk about the worst news EVER! I remember feeling so overwhelmed with fear, sorrow, and sadness, being faced with my own mortality.

I decided to fight cancer with everything that modern medicine had to offer. That meant surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. I would do anything it took to see my little kids someday have their first day of Kindergarten! Heck! I just wanted to see what age 30 would be like!

Chemo wasn’t my favorite thing. Feeling painful, achy, flu-like symptoms for 6 months, plus losing all my hair, wasn’t exactly my kind of fun!

But with a lot of prayers and patience, I made it! I did it!

One of the biggest lessons I learned during my cancer journey, was that life is short. We never know when our last day will be; we need to live life to it’s fullest! Document everything! And one of the best ways to remember life is through pictures of course!

In the winter of 2008, I stepped out on a limb and decided to start my own photography business. I knew I wanted to capture life’s most precious moments for others and help them have a memory and keepsake.

But what would I name my business?

My great friend Stacey, helped me come up with a name. She reminded me that my cancer journey has shaped so much of my life and helped me realize it would be important to include my experience somehow in my new business. (Thanks Stacey!)

So, PINK is for breast cancer and DAFFODIL is the cancer flower.

So then it began… Pink Daffodil Photography.

If you feel like today isn’t the day for pictures because you’re overweight, not looking your best, bald, or just don’t have time; I’m speaking from personal experience…

Spring has sprung and the blossoms are out! There’s a cold storm on the way, but when the storm clears, I’m ready for some spring pictures!!
Pink Daffodil Photography is in need of GIRLS! I recently have teamed up with Mack Savvy and have LOTS of fun, new props and dress up stuff to try out!
So here’s what I need:
Girls who LOVE the camera. This is a MUST!
1 yr old girl
2 year old girl
3 year old girl
4 year old girl that has a baby sister 3 months to 1 year old
5 year old girl
6 year old girl
7 year old girl
8 year old girl
9 year old girl
10 year old girl
So here’s what you get:
A FREE 20 minute portrait Session, 2 FREE images on CD, and the option to order additional prints/images at the discounted rate of 20% off. And some SERIOUS fun!
What you need to do:
1. Email pinkdaffodilphoto@gmail your contact information, name and age of your girl, and a snapshot of them.
2. Entries must be sent no later than Wednesday, April 21, 2010 by 10:00pm MDST.
3. You must be available for a photo session, THIS Saturday, April 24 between 4:00pm and 7:30pm, to be held in the area of Salt Lake City, so you must be able to travel.
4. For many of the fun skirts and tutus, you will need to bring your own white or black t-shirt, tank top or leotard.
I only have a certain number of session times available, so selections will be made by random selection.
If you have a daughter who LOVES the camera and LOVES to dress up, this is the right photo session for you! Enter NOW!!!

I LOVED visiting Phoenix, Arizona and meeting so many wonderful families. Anthem Park is so beautiful. It was so nice to see green grass, trees, and sweet smelling blossoms!! The 75 degree weather was perfect! I know I’ll DEFINITELY be visiting again!!
